Maasin News –– Regional Climate Change Research and Development Centre director Eduardo Mangaoang has announced here that the agency will soon establish in the region a Climate Change Research Center. The scientific research facility will be located in the Visayas State University at Baybay City, Leyte.
Mangaoang disclosed that the Department of Budget and Management have already allocated at least P142 Million for the project that will also fund various researches and demonstration farms aimed at promoting the growing and production of climate-resilient crops down to the grassroots level. The agency is now receiving local research proposals for the program.
Speaking on the topic “Forestry, Biodiversity, and Climate Change”, director Mangaoang stressed at the first environment summit in Maasin City that the climate change research centre is part of the government’s action plan for the country to properly cope up with the devastating effects of changes in the planet’s climate. “The focus of research in this modern facility will be more on food, human security, and environment protection”, Mangaoang said.
The center will spearhead responsive research, development, and extension activities to improve scientific knowledge and understanding on climate change in coordination with local government units and the academe. “It will share studies and inputs to those in the field”, Mangaoang concluded.
