ABUYOG NEWS – Tribu Buyoganon of Abuyog, Leyte won the coveted Sinulog 2015 Free Interpretation Category in the recently concluded Sinulog Festival on Sunday, January 18.
Buyogan Festival which was absent in last year’s competition after super typhoon Yolanda hit the coastal town of Abuyog made a resounding come back, besting other contingents coming in from different parts of the country. It also bagged the top prize for Best in Musicality.
Alang-alang, Leyte’s Lingganay Festival won second after Abuyog taking the prize for the Best Costume contest in the same category along the way. Both contingents also wowed local and foreign spectators in the street dancing down the Sinulog parade route.
Buyogan Festival has come a long way, topping the famous Pintados Kasadyaan Festival in the province of Leyte for several years in a row and representing it successfully in the annual national Aliwan festival of festivals in Intramuros, Manila.
In the 1997 Sinulog competition it only placed 5th but came back as a champion in 2009. It was 2nd in 2011 only to regain the popular title this year.
