ALBUERA NEWS – Mayor Ramon De la Cerna, Jr. here has asked his farmer-constituents to use wisely the government fund recently given to them by the Department of Agriculture to ensure the rehabilitation of their farms and increasing their crop yields.
Mayor De la Cerna thanked the Department of Agriculture regional office for distributing up to P1.3 Million in cash to farmer beneficiaries in Albuera.
Around 852 farmers received the financial assistance from the department under its ‘Cash for Assets’ rehabilitation assistance for Yolanda victims.
Under the program, a farmer can receive from P10,000 to P50,000 depending on the farm area he plants. The government assistance is intended to help farmers recover from various typhoons and is expected to cushion the economic effect of disasters on the region’s agri–aqua sector.
De la Cerna advised the recipients not to be dependent so much on the government. ‘Everyone must also ask what he can do for his country’, the mayor said, quoting a famous line by US President John F. Kennedy.
Sitio Malitbog farmer Romeo Argomido, 61, said that the government assistance he was able to get is a great help. “I can use this money to expand my field and start work earlier in the season”, he beamed.
