Philippine News, London — Thousands of Filipinos flocked to Apps Court Farm near Hampton Court in Surrey on Saturday 19th July for the first day of this weekend long celebration of the 30th Barrio Fiesta sa London. The early morning weather forecast of possible torrential rain and thunderstorms didn’t seem to deter the visitors who arrived from different parts of the United Kingdom by the coach load.
The event was attended by the Philippine Ambassador to London Enrique Manalo, who praised and congratulated the Fiesta organisers, The Philippine Centre and its partner, ABS-CBN Europe, for bringing to the UK ‘the best of the Philippines, by successfully showcasing Filipino culture and tradition’.
Ambassador Manalo went on to highlight the special relationship that exists between the UK and the Philippines, the UK having made the largest single donation to the Typhoon Haiyan relief appeal. The Ambassador also made a point to remind Filipinos living in the UK to register with the Embassy in order to exercise their right to vote in the 2016 elections.
Also present was the Deputy Mayor of Elmbridge Borough Council, Jan Fuller, who congratulated the organisers and welcomed the visitors and guests to her town. ‘Thank you for bringing the Philippines to us’, she said. ‘I am looking forward to seeing the stalls and sampling Filipino food’, she exclaimed.
The day offered something for everyone. The main stage area was surrounded by several varieties of food stalls and business stands (mostly Filipino). Whilst there was a Funfair and Volleyball tournament also happening a short walk away.
The crowd enjoyed watching various Filipino cultural performances and production numbers. However the afternoon celebrity segment proved to be the biggest hit, when guest celebrities Ejay Falcon, Sam Milby, Pokwang, Enchong Dee, Daniel Padilla, Jessie Mendiola and Kathryn Bernardo, who were flown in from the Philippines for the event by ABS-CBN Europe, came on to the stage!
Sunday’s event is anticipated to be equally exciting with more ABS-CBN Stars performing on stage including Gary Valenciano and Julia Barretto.
