VILLABA NEWS – The Philippine National Police here is still following up supposed ‘leads’ that could help solve the recent daylight murder of Villaba, Leyte’s vice mayor.
Vice Mayor Claudio Martin Larrazabal, scion of the prominent Larrazabal family in Western Leyte, was gunned down outside a restaurant–bar he owned in Villaba around noon of Monday this week. He died from a gunshot wound in the chest.
Villaba Mayor Jorge Veloso disclosed that the vice mayor was shot at least seven times by gunmen on a motorcycle in Barangay Del Norte at around 11:45 in the morning. “I immediately instructed our police here to probe this killing and arrest the perpetrators,” he said.
There is still no clear motive of the assassination. The Larrazabal family is still stunned and remains silent about the killing. The PNP regional command has organized a task force to investigate Larrazabal’s death which came as a shock to residents of this peaceful town.
The victim served as municipal mayor of Villaba for nine years. Barred from seeking another term as local chief executive, he ran and won as vice mayor during the last local elections.
