The rising modern market facility along Carigara, Leyte's harbour is part of mayor Eduardo Ong's economic development reform programs for this busy municipality.

Improved trading seen as new Carigara market rises

Carigara News – Carigara, Leyte’s new wet market will soon bring ease in trading between vendors and buyers from the town’s present crowded public market.

The facility which houses modern and more spacious amenities intended for the municipality’s growing number of market sellers sit on land recently reclaimed by the local government beside the town’s harbour.

‘The development project along the Carigara Bay area gives the municipality enough land space for fresh market stalls while avoiding procurement of real estate’, Carigara town Mayor Eduardo Ong earlier said.

Carigara is a strategic destination for wholesale buyers of sea and agriculture products from different parts of Region 8.

Ong envisions the development of the town’s central business district starting from the improvement of the public market area where the town’s daily sea and agriculture produce are usually brought.

The local government is presently organizing the public market for traders to find more comfort and ease while they do business.

The cost of this economic program is expected to be recouped in time by the local government through the daily regulatory fees that the facility will generate.
