Abuyog Business News – A one-day Consumers and Retailers Forum was conducted by the Department of Trade and Industry Leyte Provincial Office last 7 August 2015 at Abuyog, Leyte.
The Consumers Forum, held at Notre Dame of Abuyog was participated by fifty (50) students and teachers of the school. DTI Leyte Consumer Welfare Division (CWD) Chief Araceli D. Larraga provided the participants with knowledge on the Consumer Rights and Responsibilities while STIDS Nida C. Altares presented the salient features of Republic Act 7394, otherwise known as the Consumer Act of the Philippines. Fair trade laws such as Price Tag Law, Labeling Law, Deceptive Sales Act and Practices, including the different types of consumers were also discussed to the participants.
The Retailers Forum, on the other hand, was held at the 2nd Floor of Abuyog Public Market, Abuyog, Leyte and was attended by fifty (50) small business owners/retailers of the municipality. Also present was Municipal Councilor Nathaniel Piscos, Committee Chairman of Trade and Industry who welcomed the DTI team and the participants. CWD Chief Larraga tackled during the forum the different Fair Trade Laws which includes Business Name, Price Tag, Labeling and Sales Promo while STIDS Candelaria Duavis informed the participants on the Product Standards Law.
An open forum followed at the end of each activity where the participants raised clarificatory questions on BN registration, DTI financing programs and other related concerns which were duly answered by the speakers.
The activity was conducted in cooperation with the Local Government Unit of Abuyog, Leyte.
A Consumers and Retailers Forum is part of the consumer education program of DTI Leyte Provincial Office aimed to increase the customers’ level of awareness of their rights and responsibilities as well as, create a responsible business sector where retailers uphold these rights for consumers to avail quality goods and services and get the best value for money.
