Tacloban News – Accompanied by his supporters who patiently waited at the provincial COMELEC office, greeting his followers and members of the local and national media, public figure and now congressional aspirant Henry ‘Dingdong’ Ong appeared elated after filing his certificate of candidacy.
‘The people’s support is just incredible, I am astounded’, Ong told the local media.
Ong’s mother Ms. Gorgonia Cañega Ong also joined her sons together with her daughter World Bank financial consultant Susan Ong.
In a short press conference, local media personalities pointedly asked Ong’s readiness to run a campaign against his opponent, Liberal Party stalwart and House Deputy Speaker Sergio Apostol.
‘We know what we are facing and we are prepared to bring this campaign to a conclusive victory in the 2016 elections’, Henry ‘Dingdong’ Ong told local media.
Ong’s political star is steadily rising in a seemingly unstoppable course with many local leaders already joining his camp.
‘It is tough remembering all the names of numerous community leaders who have come to pledge their support for reforms in the district under a new leadership, what I can say at the moment is that we can now also add the commitment of two strong mayoralty candidates in the district’, Ong said.
Carigara councilor Dennis Narido Garay, one of Ong’s campaign handlers, said that Ong is still meeting more multi–sector groups to consult them about priority development programs.
Ong earlier revealed that he will focus on health, education, livelihood and public participation as immediate priorities while working on specific programs for the different problems besetting communities in the 14 different municipalities of the 2nd district of Leyte.
Henry ‘Dingdong’ Ong earlier received the organizational support of former Leyte Governor Edgar Enerlan.
Attorney Enerlan garnered 27.90% of the 70.64% total votes cast for the 2nd district congressional elections in 2013. Enerlan also decisively won in that elections in his native Burauen, Leyte.
