Duterte in Ormoc: ‘Try Me!’

ORMOC NEWS –– Speaking in native Bisaya before thousands of people here who flocked to the Ormoc city plaza to hear him speak, presidential contender and Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte dared voters in this city to try his brand of leadership.

Duterte who joined Senator Grace Poe at the top spot of the presidential race in the latest surveys told a supportive audience of Ormocanos that ‘it is time to end Manila’s dominance in the country’s politics’.

Joined by his running mate Senator Allan Peter Cayetano and Ormoc mayoralty candidate Richard Gomez, mayor Duterte told the crowd that he ‘would have been satisfied observing from Davao the way the entire country was being governed if it was in fact being tended to properly’.

‘The country have an epidemic of illegal drugs because government officials tolerate it. Shabu is even being cooked in the national penitentiary’, Duterte told a captivated crowd adding that ‘this foolishness has to end!’.

Duterte is proceeding on a platform to provide strong leadership with the will to end corruption within the first six months of his term if elected, an assurance that has earned him the support of ordinary citizens who are tired of the unabated corruption in both local and national government.

The only candidate coming from Mindanao, Duterte also said that he understands the problem facing Mindanao. ‘I have been in talks with our Muslim brothers and I assured them that I am willing to listen to them to avoid an impending war in Mindanao because of the Bangsamoro Basic Law’, he said.

Meanwhile, asked to remark on Duterte’s campaign message, mayoralty candidate Richard Gomez told the Visayan Business Post that he supports Duterte’s position against corruption saying he himself will help end corruption in Ormoc if he is elected city mayor.
