Gathering of friends draws huge crowd in Pastrana

PASTRANA NEWS –– In a massive show of force not usually seen in this interior municipality, hundreds of people including farmers, young voters, women, senior citizens, young professionals, motorcycle transport operators, and former government employees came out to openly support the mayoral candidacy here of Dr. Alvin T. Opiniano, Sr.

Together with other independent candidates of ‘Ursa Pastrana’, Dr. Opiniano led supporters, including incumbent barangay chairmen and local officials from different parts of the town in a unity walk around Pastrana’s main streets before the start of a 5-hour program that showed local talents and endorsement speeches from civil society members.

Party–list groups Tingog Sinirangan, Anakpawis and Gabriela also showed up to support Opiniano and his slate.

‘We are here to support the reform platform of Dr. Opiniano which is a fresh start for Pastrana where most people are experiencing poverty’, Tingog Sinirangan first nominee Jude Acidre told the excited crowd that gathered at Pastrana’s public plaza.

In a speech heard by an emotional public, Dr. Opiniano said that ‘my most important job is to return the people’s trust to the local government by stamping out the corruption that has weakened local services in the municipal government’.

‘It is time for our municipal government to show full financial transparency and implement capacity–building administrative reforms’, he added.

‘Our team will work to give you the proper services that you have long been deprived of in the form of improved basic health services, free accessible medicines, developed technology–based local farming, support for higher skills and technical education for jobseekers, and lead in providing livelihood opportunities’, Opiniano told an overwhelmed crowd.

‘I have no doubt that Dr. Alvin Opiniano will serve Pastrana with efficiency, intelligence, and dedication in the tradition of his family’, said Dr. Paquito Estanislao, a noted medical practitioner in Region 8 who hails from Pastrana.
